3 places for cocktails in manchester.

I have always wanted to visit Manchester. There are so many places in the UK I’m yet to see but desperate to visit (Cornwall, the Scottish Highlands, the Norfolk Broads, Oxford, Cambridge, the Cotswolds, Leeds, Belfast, the list goes on) and Manchester was one of them. I really like the north of England from what I’ve seen so far and I knew I’d adore Manchester once I was there.

And hey! I was right. It is a brilliant city with so much life and a great personality. The people are incredibly friendly (with wonderful accents), there is loads to eat, see and do and everything about Manchester made me smile. I’m already excited to one day go back and see more, especially of the incredible Northern Quarter.

One thing we did a lot of in Manchester was sample lots of different cocktails – I’m not really sure how many we had but I definitely felt like I’d been hit by a bus when I woke up on Sunday morning. Manchester is filled with brilliant bars but these three are amazing for cocktails!

In the Northern Quarter you’ll find Ply which we loved. It is such a chilled out atmosphere, light interiors and huge drinks menu. We felt really comfortable here as there was a mix of people and a nice ambiance so ended up staying all afternoon. We worked our way down the cocktail menu (Melon Blush is a most) and snacked on a Charcuterie platter mid-way through which was delicious.

The pizza in Ply is supposed to be amazing and it certainly looked it! Next time I head to Manchester I’ll definitely be swinging back this way to try it out. Everything was really well priced and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

The Alchemist.

I love heading to English cities and finding new chains which I never knew existed because Scotland seems to miss out on them! The cocktails in The Alchemist are incredible and there are so damned many to choose from. I can’t remember all the ones I tried but I was a huge fan of the Battenburg as it was so sweet.

The Alchemist was super busy and there were loads of people eating as well. I didn’t get a chance to see any of the food but the menu looks pretty decent. The bar staff in The Alchemist were incredible – they definitely put on a show.

Turtle Bay

Why oh, why oh why oh, why won’t Turtle Bay come to Glasgow? They do 2-4-1 cocktails across all cocktails after 10 – I know, I can’t believe it either! You do have to order the same cocktail to get the deal but still, that is incredible. Two cocktails for £7/£7.50! Madness! And it is just across the road from a McDonald’s which is handy for when you leave!

Turtle Bay is really fun and quirky with great music plays, a few game areas and plenty of seating. The bar was chaos however with so many people taking advantage of the deals so I’d try and pay in cash if possible so you don’t need to wait for a card machine. My favourite cocktail here was the Bahama Mama as god they are good!
