Our new house has quite a few apple trees. It makes the garden look really filled and lived in, I think fruit trees have that effect. I wanted to make use of all the apples hanging from the trees and decided to tackle apple chutney.
My grandmother has assured me it is okay to use her recipe which I found stuffed inside one of her cookbooks. It is super easy to make, like I did it, and really tasty with brie and crackers.
Easy Apple Chutney
(for 3 jars of chutney)
1.5lbs cooking apples (peeled, cored and diced)
1/2 tb salt
1/2 tsp mixed spice
1/2 pint brown vinegar
0.5lbs onions (chopped)
0.10lbs demerara sugar
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp pepper
Boil for one hour, stirring continuously.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy right? Now I’m off to snack on some of my own chutney with those brie and crackers I chatted about earlier ..
